CANONICITY LABELS

These are the labels that we use on posts, like headcanon, canon, etc
. Some labels can be mixed together

CANON
This means that the sexual violence in any form is either shown, outright stated/discussed within the text, or the character's story is explicitly about dealing with/suffering from that trauma. This also includes creators' outside confirmation.
Examples: Nurse Bendy from Moral Orel, Celie from The Color Purple, Angela Orosco from Silent Hill 2IMPLIED / HEAVILY IMPLIED
This means that the text alludes to some form of sexual violence. This label implies some level of authorial intent, but there can be some ambiguity to it.
Examples: Rose from The Marrow Thieves , D'Arce from Fear & Hunger , Viola from One PieceINFERRED
This is very similar to implied. This label refers to characters who have canon experiences with things like human trafficking, inappropriate relationships, or sex work, where it is more often than not that sexual violence will happen to them
Examples: Wriothesley from Genshin Impact , Poison from Final Fight, Blake Belladonna from RWBYCODED
This refers to characters who, despite no canon or implied confirmation of abuse, either have experiences incredibly similar to victims, or they are written allegorically. Coding can happen regardless of authorial intent.
Characters coded as victims of sexual violence tend to have themes of loss of autonomy, difficult relationships with sex, tend to "lose" a part of their body, and more. There are also characters who are labeled as "coded" based on how they act: whether this be due to their hypsersexuality/sex repulsion, difficulty with relationships, or more.
Examples: Maleficent from Malficent (2014), Roman Roy from Succession, Mike from Total Drama, Sayaka Miki from Puella Magi: Madoka MagicaHEADCANON
These are usually sent in because the submitter is either projecting or relating to a character. Headcanons for perpetrators are generally not allowed on the account. See more in the FAQ on why these are accepted.
All headcanon posts will be labeled as SAVSHC (standing for SA victims/survivors headcanon) so those who aren't interested in that are able to muteIf you would like an account that exclusively posts canon SA victims, please follow FVictims6590INTERPRETATION
Due to art being complex, and everyone having different experiences, sometimes people will take away messages that others might not. Sometimes these messages are intended, but not always. These are for "headcanons", or even theories, that have some basis in textual analysis.
(SEMI) AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL / BIOGRAPHICAL
This refers to works based on real life people who have faced sexual abuse. This includes historical biopics
Autobiographical / Semi-Autobiographical Examples: Dolor y Gloria (2019), No Longer Human, Baby ReindeerBiographical Examples: T.E. Lawrence in Lawrence of Arabia (1962), Abigail Williams from The Crucible, Priscilla Presley in Priscilla (2024)

Type of Character/Abuse

The kind of character that they are

HARASSMENT
This refers to characters' whose experiences with sexual violence are sexual harassment
PERPETRATOR / PERPETRATOR*
This refers to characters who are victims of sexual violence themselves, but have also perpetrated it. An asterisk (*) after perpetrator means there is generally some nuance needed in discussions on their perpetratorhood. All characters with the perpetrator label are victims of SA in some shape or form, otherwise they would not be posted to the account.
Perpetrator examples: Griffith from Berserk, Bojack Horseman from Bojack HorsemanPerpetrator* Examples: Angel Dust from Hazbin HotelENABLER
This applies to characters who enable sexual violence in some way.
Examples: Curly from Mouthwashing

Representation Labels

These labels are related to the voracity of the representation that a character offers. Note that these are incredibly subjective, and that there are more often than not aspects of characters with this label that resonate with people.

MISHANDLED/HANDLED QUESTIONABLY/ HANDLED POORLYThough representation is a matter of opinion, and what one victim would find good, someone else may think is bad, this label is much more ambiguous. The other labels in this section are descriptors for this representation. But they are not always synonymous.Examples: Tyler Downs from 13 Reasons Why, Kotoko Utsugi from Danganronpa, Nick Burkhardt from GrimmSEXUALIZEDRefers to characters whose trauma is, at some point or another, sexualized. This does not inherently mean that the character's trauma is always portrayed poorly, there is some value in how they are treated unless stated otherwise.Examples: Aoba Seragaki from DRAMAtical Murder, Ryuuko Matoi from Kill La Kill, Mukuro Ikusaba from DanganronpaPLAYED FOR LAUGHS
This is for characters whose trauma is, at some point or another, treated as a joke in canon. This does not inherently mean characters in comedy shows.
Examples: Nurf Nurfington from Camp Camp, Charlie Kelly from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Britta Perry from CommunityIGNORED
This refers to characters whose trauma/abuse is ignored by the narrative.
Examples: Blitzso from Helluva Boss, Filia Medici from Skullgirls, Lady Oscar from Rose of Versailles

Creator and Media Labels

This section is created with the knowledge and understanding that art is a collaborative process and that issues on individual creators vs entire creative teams can be nuanced and complicated. This is very simplified.SOURCE IS 18+
Not related to a creator, per se, but moreso the source. This is reserved for media that is exclusively for an adult audience. Things that are Rated R, Rated M or TV-MA don't belong here, but media that is Rated Ao, Rated X, or NC-17, would. This label generally refers to ecchi, eroge, hentai, and other "erotic" content. Some seinen may also qualify, but it depends.
Examples of things that are not 18+: Dexter, South Park, Breaking BadExamples of things that are 18+: Slow Damage, Huniepop, Fritz the CatCONTROVERSIAL CREATORDue to how divisive certain issues are, especially pertaining to fandom and the ethics of creation, this label exists for the benefit of people. This label is basically a catch-all for "proship" or adjacent people. If you're an "anti", you can avoid these works, and if you're not, maybe you'll find something you like. This label exists to describe controversies that lie in fiction.Examples: vivziepop, deepseaprisoner, Michelle Czajkowski FusABUSIVE CREATORThis refers to creators who are abusive. This label exists to describe real world abuses.Examples: Skyler Page, Neil Gaiman, David CageAPOLOGIST CREATORThis refers to creators who are apologists of people with allegations of abuseExamples: Eiichiro Oda, Francis Ford Coppola, Ashton Kutcher

Submission Questions

When will submissions reopen?Soon :)Why are you posting if submissions are closed? This is the backed up queue from when they were last open, as well as the submissions that have been sent when they were closed (for the past 6 months). The queue is currently in the hundreds. Why do you accept headcanons?A few reasons for this. This account has always accepted headcanons. This isn't new. It is for the expressed purpose of trying to destigmatize this form of headcanoning. This is a common coping mechanisms for victims and survivors of SV/SA to do. It's fairly similar to how someone would project their identities onto characters they like. Yes, sometimes the characters make no sense, but that is sometimes how projection works. The other reason is that fiction is complicated. Everyone interprets things differently, and it would be near impossible to uphold "canon only" submissions. I do not mean this passive-aggressively, but if you would like to make an account that doesn't post headcanons, you are free to do so and I would, in fact, encourage it (if you have the mental fortitude to do so. it's fairly overwhelming running an account like this). We don't own this concept. If you would like to not see headcanon posts, we tag them as SAVSHC, for your convenience to mute them. If you want an account that only posts canon stuff, check out FVictims6590It's gross/disrespectful/nonsensical in canon someone would headcanon a character like this. With headcanons of this kind, a lot less of the focus is on "how" the trauma happened and more how a character navigates it. The trauma for many people from sexual violence isn't always the instance itself, and moreso everything surrounding it. This is not "wishing for a character to be harmed", it would be akin to headcanoning/projecting a character you like as having a disability or being trans. Also, in the context of media that is headcanoned and targeted for younger audiences, it is important to note that these submissions are from CSA victims who used projection as a coping mechanism during or after being abused. Why do you allow perpetrators of sexual violence to be submitted?Another question with a few answers.
First: perpetuating "perfect victim" mentality, the idea that everyone who has gone through abuse must be a completely flawless individual, is incredibly harmful. Two things can be true at once: someone can be a terrible person, but they can still have been traumatized sexually. Even then, sometimes people like flawed and complicated characters more than unambiguously "good" ones.
Second: there are many survivors/victims themselves, because of this "perfect victim" mentality, that feel themselves unable to connect with characters that are completely innocent. Whether they are flawed people themselves, or their self perception has been warped by abuse (which is very common). Some people view morally complex/reprehensible characters not as role models, but as cautionary tales: things that they can easily become, things they want to avoid becoming.
And, thirdly: some of the most interesting art about sexual abuse features characters who repeat the cycle (Bojack Horseman, Goodnight Pun-Pun, Twin Peaks, and Revolutionary Girl Utena, to name a few). Not including these kinds of characters would be a disservice.
Where do you stand on proship/anti discourseSolely speaking as 🐍 here, I am of the firm belief that both sides of this discourse harm sexual violence victims and survivors. Both sides actively censor and attack victims they disagree with, and only bolster the voices of those that share stories in a way that doesn't make them too uncomfortable. "Antis" do this by trying to hyperanalyze and force traumatized people to relive their experiences, but proshippers who claim to be anti censorship, only allow discussion of sexual abuse that they can get titilated by. This isn't even to discuss how both sides are hostile to victims of incest, as they both are equally guilty of viewing incest solely as a porn category. No matter my personal opinions, I want this account to be a safe space for all survivors and victims, whether I personally agree with their stance or not. And a safe space entails this toxic bullshit from not being here at all.

How submissions are taken

  • Each of the mods (🐍,🫏, 🦭, and πŸͺΌ), will react with their given emoji to your DM to show that we have received it

  • Currently, only 🐍 is responding to things on neospring

  • Submissions are officially CLOSED, and they will likely reopen whenever enough of the queue is offloaded enough to not keep glitching out.

  • Submissions are scheduled and queued for 12AM, 4AM, 8AM, 12PM, 4PM, AND 8PM EST daily. We do not manually do that, it's using the twitter schedule post feature.

  • As of now, due to people (ourselves included) eagerly waiting for submissions to reopen, We will attempt to make more than 6 posts a day, to clear up our schedule/queue much sooner

How will I know you've posted it?

  • As of now, we will not send you your submission when it is posted. This account has grown a lot, and considering there are currently hundreds of submissions pending to be posted, it would be impossible to keep this up. If you have requested something after December 26th 2024, it is likely it will be posted near the end of March at the absolute earliest. The queue, as of editing this, is already stretched out to late May, with a minimum of 6 daily posts. That means that there is an absolute minimum of 300 submissions that have not been posted yet.

  • You may ask for when it will be posted. If there isn't a confirmed date yet, we will say this, which means that your submission will be in at least a month

How to format a submission

- You must state the character's name, source/media they're from as well as the canonicity of the submission. Please refer to Labels in the directory on what this is
- If it is a character from a piece of media with many iterations (ie: The Legend of Zelda, Marvel/DC, etc.), and your submission is for a specific version of the character, clarify that
- You need to provide an explanation as to why it is canon, implied/heavily implied, or coded. We are not familiar with every piece of media, and even ones that we are fans of, we tend to take people's word. If you do not give an explanation, your request will ignored.
- Please do state if it's a spoiler
- If the work is biographical and about real people who have existed (ie: The Crucible, Lawrence of Arabia, Priscilla), do state that. Same applies to autobiographical/semi-autobiographical works (No Longer Human, Baby Reindeer)
- State if the franchise is 18+. This does not mean things that are Rated-R / TV-MA / Rated M. This means content that is Rated X/NC-17/Adults-Only. For instance, South Park would not be 18+, but Fritz the Cat would. Things like (most) seinen, HBO shows, and Underground Comix would not be 18+, but ecchi, hentai, and eroge would.
- If it is through DMs, it would be nice if you supplied pictures you want us to use, especially if it's a niche source
- OC Submissions are allowed

Misc

- We will only delete and reupload posts if the information is inaccurate, if fanart (unless it's a book) or AI was used for the photos, or if it breaks one of our rules

What is/isn't allowed

- Mods are at the discretion to turn down posts however they please.
- No headcanons for characters based on real people. Though most characters are influenced by real people, this is for characters directly named after them.
- Headcanons for perpetrators, especially those who have no purpose in the narrative other than to be sexually predatory, are not allowed a vast majority of the time. This is one of those things that's a case by case basis.
- Headcanons for OCs of people you do not know are not allowed to be submitted.
